Currently the Centre receives some income from the monthly carboot sale in Miranda do Corvo. Regrettably due to changing economic circumstances and the high cost of licensed kennels in Portugal will have to close a section shortly. Further it is with regret that, one of the mainstays of the Centre, Leonor will be leaving in the near future as she is unable to continue without proper compensation. Yvonne and Barry have been engaged with the Centre now for 18 years and want to ensure that their work continues. Their programme for the future requires some changes and these are required based on several factors namely; their personal health, the present economic situation, the loss Leonor and the kennels. Their proposed future plan is to
This will of course improve the quality of life for the animals presently in their care. At this time the Cedar Centre is caring for 24 dogs approximately 25 cats plus 2 donkeys and 2 sheep. It is important to note that all of the animals that are in the care of the Centre will be looked after until they are either adopted or pass away from natural causes. There is no intention of putting down any of them. Subject to obtaining much needed extra funding, we will restore our clinic area to its former glory in order that we can support any visiting veterinarian. As and when we have kennels that become vacant these will be maintained in preparation for any emergency or made available to other associations should they require short term stays. The Centre will always be on hand to offer help and support to any person who comes to the Centre but in future it will not be in a position to maintain or increase the existing group of cared for animals. The Cedar Centre has had the support from the Câmara of Miranda do Corvo and the Tourist Board in their encouragement by allowing them to start and continue with the monthly Boot Sale which has proved to be a boon for the Centre, prior to this Yvonne and Barry Clent were supporting the Centre from their own private incomes. Barry and Yvonne Clent would also extend their thanks to A.S.A.E and the DGV for the advice given and their decision in not creating unnecessary hardship whist the transition takes place. Please be assured the Centre is not closing, it is currently in transition and but will also support and co-operate with other similar organisations, such as Louza Animales, to share the load in caring for abused and abandoned animals in the local areas in the near future. How you can help - if you (or anyone you know), wish to adopt and animal, please contact The Cedar Centre (details on their website at www.thecedarcentre.com); continue to spread the word and support the carboot sale at Miranda do Corvo to ensure that the animals and facilities are maintained and improved. |
