Clarisa the Donkey Clarisa was rescued after having been kept in an enclosed environment with no light or room to turn around, we are not too sure about the time frame other than it was considerable. She was brought to the Center and could only walk with difficulty and was obviously in pain. She was suffering from a severe skin complaint, her hooves were twisted and overgrown. The farrier has corrected the feet as much as possible for the first time, this will however take more visits to correct. The skin complaint will get better with the correct diet and in the better weather we will be able to give her frequent washes with special shampoo. In order that she is not on her own we have given her a stable mate Goldie an abandoned puppy they get on famously. We have to thank a Dutch organisation, called Animal Medical Care Foundation, Netherlands, who have provided blankets, medication and funding for Clarisa's recovery. Doyle the DogDoyle was left abandoned and tied with a length of wire to a post in the car park of Lidl´s supermarket in Miranda Do Corvo. We received the information late at night and found him in the pouring rain soaked to the skin. He was very frightened, nervous and hungry. The next day he was taken to the Vets and had his coat removed, was washed, castrated, wormed etc. The condition of his fur was an absolute disgrace he had to be shaved off as you would shear a sheep it came off in one solid lump, (even the fleas found this one hard work). He now looks superb, has settled down with the others in the kennels. Clarisa on Arrival Laci the Pekinese Laci was abandoned and brought to the Center. She was diagnosed as having a prolapsed vagina which was badly infected. If she had not been found and given medical attention she would probably have died within 2 days. After major surgery she has recovered and now has a loving family. To help animals such as these which have no where else that they can go and no one else who will care for them we need your support, there are a number of ways to help us at The Cedar Center. |
